Passionate for wine for over 47 years. It might be due to having been born in Haro, a top wine capital, Fernando is in charge of vinifying our wines. Father of three children, he loves walking in nature-above all around vineyards, to chill out.
Would you like to know more about him?
His more personal side
He loves jazz, specially if it comes from the voice of Diana Kroll. His favorite sport is football although he has not confessed his team to us. However, he has told us his bedside book is Steppenwolf by Hermann Hesse and the film he likes the most, which is The Godfather.
We asked him the following questions:
What did you want to do as an adult when you were a child?
I wanted to become a street sweeper. I loved to be in the street all day long and I used to think sweepers were lucky to have that.
What would you do if you win the lottery?
That I have it clear: to buy a land surrounded by vineyards, like a château.
When you are not working you are…
Dreaming of my wines.
What is the best gift live has given you?
Undoubtedly, my children.
And what is the best gift you have obtained from Viña Olabarri?
My friendship with the Olabarri family.
The professional side
Which is your favorite wine and what would you pair it with?
I love Bikandi Reserva with a good piece of meat.
When did you start to work in the wine business?
Surprisingly I started making cider in Villaviciosa (Asturias) and later I came to Haro to make wine.
What is the best of working at Viña Olabarri?
I love the team and the freedom I have to do my work.
What does make Viña Olabarri different to other wineries?
The size of the winery. That allows us to select the best wines painstakingly.
And to finish this interview…
If you would have to define Viña Olabarri with just one word that would be…QUALITY.
